DESTIN — It's not the biggest shopping center in town, but the new owner of Destin City Market wants to make it one of the area's premier destinations.

Ryan Jumonville, CEO of United Networks of America, purchased Destin City Market from local developer Jay Odom in March for $2.8 million. The shopping center is located east of Destin Commons on U.S. Highway 98.

"(Jumonville is) a big believer in this area," said Brandon Knox with Destin Real Estate Group, which finalized the sale. "He actually owns Destiny by the Sea and just saw an opportunity. It made sense for him from a commercial standpoint."

Odom built Destin City Market in 2004. Jumonville moved to Destin from Baton Rouge in 2008.

Since purchasing Destin City Market, Jumonville has developed a new website for the shopping center that offers exclusive discounts for the stores and makes it more visible on search engines such as Google and Bing.

The shopping center is 100 percent occupied. It features stores such as Destin Fashion Exchange, Pure Couture and Kitchenique, among others.

"(Jumonville) is going to do some improvements," Knox said. "The tenants in there, their synergy is a lot better. That place was empty a long time."

Knox said Jumonville has allocated more than $20 million to invest in Destin and is negotiating to purchase two smaller commercial properties in the city. If all goes well, Knox said he expects the sales to close in the next week.
